The fourth round of the Abarth 500 Trophy will take place tomorrow (Saturday 6 June) and Sunday on the circuit of Magione, in the Italian region of Umbria. Around 30 drivers participate in this championship featuring the high-performance Abarth 500 Assetto Corse which has proved extremely spectacular during the first three rounds (each one including two races) on the most demanding Italian circuits, such as Monza, Mugello and Imola.
It is not a coincidence if the leader in the standings of the Abarth 500 Trophy is an expert driver of the calibre of Salvatore Tavano who won the two races held at Mugello and Imola, while Nicola Baldan and Manuel Villa won at Monza and are second and third in the championship respectively.
A lot of young drivers take part in the Abarth 500 Trophy. The Under-23 classification is led by Alex Campani who precedes Tobias Tauber and Simone Monforte. Campani and Monforte recently achieved great results in the Abarth 500 European Trophy on the Spanish circuit of Valencia. Campani finished second in Race 1 and Monforte - who is only 16 - was classified third in Race 2.
Here's the programme of the event at Magione, which is held within the framework of the ACI-CSAI championships: Saturday 6 June, free practice session at 11:30am and qualifying at 4:00pm. Sunday, there will be two 20-lap races at 9:00am and at 2:40pm.
Abarth 500 Trophy provisional standings: 1. Salvatore Tavano 120 points; 2. Nicola Baldan 94; 3. Manuel Villa 79; 4. Andrea Rizzoli 68; 5. Raffaele Giammaria 56; 6. Emanuele Moncini 44; 7. Denis Babuin 39; 8. Francesco Iorio 38; 9. Alex Campani 28; 10. Alan Simoni 26.
