Umberto Consigli of Tuscany has won his class at the 49th San Remo Rally, the fourth event in the Abarth Oro Diesel Trophy, which is reserved for the diesel-engined Grande Punto Abarth Multijet. Consigli dominated from start to finish, crossing the line ahead of young Alessio Pisi of Liguria. Thanks to his result, Pisi now leads the Trophy, tied with Tiziano Nerobutto, who had to retire from the San Remo race. Third place went to Dimitri Brunello. The Grande Punto Abarth once again proved to be competitive, and almost succeeded in taking first place in the Class A7 standings, preceded only by Luca Betti’s official Honda Civic.
The next event in the Abarth Oro Diesel Trophy will be abroad: the Rally du Valais, from October 25 to 27.
The 49th San Remo Rally was the final event in the Abarth Adler Plastic Trophy, which thus crowned the winners. The class reserved for the Punto Abarth Super 1600 had already been won mathematically by Andrea Zivian of Piedmont, who nonetheless competed in the final race, coming second behind Andrea Maselli of Liguria. The latter, a past winner of Fiat Trophies, thus took the 20 points available which put him in second place in the Trophy, tied with Francesco Dogliotti, who was forced to retire in San Remo. Zivian’s first prize was a Fiat Punto Abarth Super 1600, while Maselli won a Group R1 Fiat Panda 100 bhp, and Dogliotti received 20 Michelin tyres. There was a surprise finish to the Panda Rally race. After dominating at the start, the title race leader Davide Di Benedetto of Sicily had to retire with engine failure. At this point there was an exciting struggle between Andrea Zenoni and Milko Pini. Zenoni won the race, but Pini took the Adler Plastic Trophy and first prize: a Fiat Bravo 1.4 Turbo T-jet 120 bhp Sport. Zenoni took the second prize, a Group R Fiat Panda 100 bhp. Di Benedetto had to make do with overall third place, which earned him a supply of 20 Michelin tyres.
