Bearman's one-two and Browning's success opened the season of the ADAC Formel 4 Powered by Abarth at the Red Bull Ring

  • The Briton driving for Van Amersfoort confirmed his excellent start to the season by winning the first two races: Luke Browning was the winner of a hard-fought race 3.
  • Tramnitz, Smal, Montoya, Fornaroli, Cenyu and Bedrin also featured on the Austrian podiums for the three races.
  • Among the rookies, the standouts were the three-time victor Nikita Bedrin and Maya Weug, who again took second at the Red Bull Ring.

Oliver Bearman opened the seventh season of the ADAC Formel 4 Powered by Abarth Certified by FIA, the German preparatory series that sees on the track the Tatuus single-seaters powered by the 160-hp Abarth T-Jet engine, strictly derived from the road-going powertrain. After having taken pole position in race 1 and the second fastest time in the second qualifier, the 16-year-old Brit driving for Van Amersfoort Racing scored a double win, dominating from the green light to the checkered flag in race 1. In race 2, he took advantage of an error committed by the German poleman Tim Tramnitz (GER – US Racing), taking the lead soon after the start. In a very hard-fought race 3 victory for Luke Browning (GBR - US Racing), Bearman was forced to withdraw as a result of a touch with his teammate Dufek.

In race 1, Bearman kept on his tail the Prema Powerteam pairing formed by Sebastian Montoya and Kirill Smal, who managed to make up ground during the race. The top 5 is completed by Tim Tramnitz and Leonardo Fornaroli (ITA – Iron Lynx), the protagonists of a closely contested battle in the early laps of the race with Joshua Dufek and Luke Browning.

In race 2, the Brit driving for Van Amersfoort got the better of Tim Tramnitz and the Italian driver Leonardo Fornaroli, both big names in this beginning to the Formula 4 season. Joshua Dufek (AUT – Van Amersfoort Racing) and Luke Browning (GBR – US Racing) did not feature on the podium.

In the third race on the Austrian circuit, Browning managed to take advantage of the battle that put many of the big names out of the race, who had to concede penalties, touches and errors. At the start, Montoya and Bernier (R-ACE GP) received a penalty of 5 seconds for starting before the flag. Bearman, Dufek, Smal and others competing for victory left the scene, while the Brit driving for US Racing waited patiently for his moment. Under the checkered flag, Browning won ahead of the Chinese driver Han Cenyu (CHN – Van Amersfoort Racing) and Nikita Bedrin (RUS – Van Amersfoort Racing), taking first place among the rookies. The BWR Motorsport pairing formed by Taylor Barnard and Valentino Catalano completed the top 5 while Bence Valint (HUN – Van Amersfoort Racing) started 22nd and arrived at the finish line in 8th.

Among the rookies, the Russian Nikita Bedrin won 3 races out of 3 at the Red Bull Ring and topped the podium. Behind him, Maya Weug (NDL – Iron Lynx) took 3 second placings and also scored points in race 3, courtesy of her 9th placing in the overall standings. In the first three races of the season, Marcus Amand (FRA – R-ACE GP), Michael Sauter (SUI – Sauter Engineering+Design) and Samir Ben (SUI – Jenzer Motorsport) took the third step on the rookie podium.

The next event in the German series is scheduled from July 9th to 11th on the Dutch circuit at Zandvoort.

Overall standings in the ADAC Formel 4 Powered by Abarth: 1. Oliver Bearman (GBR – Van Amersfoort Racing), 50; 2. Luke Browning (GBR – US Racing), 45; 3. Sebastian Montoya (COL – Prema Powerteam), 32; 4. Tim Tramnitz (GER – US Racing), 31; 5. Kirill Smal (RUS – Prema Powerteam), 25.
