The famous Palermo-Monte Pellegrino hillclimbing race, that was held from 1908 to the end of the 1980s, will be re-enacted during the event entitled "Grandi corse di Sicilia - L'ultima vittoria di Nuvolari" (The Great Races of Sicily - Nuvolari's last win) from April 21 to 24. Now in its fourth edition, "Monte Pellegrino Historic 2016" is a "Dynamic Concours d'Elégance" in which 150 racing and sports cars that made motor sports history and were manufactured from the origins to 1976, will be taking part.
Abarth will be a Partner of the prestigious event dedicated to Tazio Nuvolari's last professional race and will set up several dedicated areas in the various locations of the event with current models. On April 10, 1950 the legendary driver won the hillclimbing race at the wheel of an Abarth 204a. Today, sixty-six years later, the brand with the Scorpion trademark is returning to the same roads with an Abarth 695 biposto and an Abarth 595 competizione.
The climax of the gathering will be the "Dynamic Concours d'Elégance" that will be held on April 23 and 24 in two extraordinary locations: on Saturday morning at the Real Parco della Favorita (Palermo) there will be a 5 kilometres long parade along the two main Avenues (dedicated to Hercules and Diana) where the Targa Florio race was staged from 1937 to 1940. The classic cars will set off in the afternoon for a re-enactment of the "Salita al Monte Pellegrino", a hillclimbing race - approximately 8 kilometres - from the city of Palermo to the square in front of the Sanctuary. On the morning of Sunday, April 24 the public is invited to attend the last round of the "Monte Pellegrino Historic 2016" event with the awards ceremony of the Concours d'Elégance at the imposing Utveggio castle. Organised by the Associazione Siracusana Automotoveicoli Storici, A.S.D.Sc. Montepellegrino and the Associazione Italiana Cultura Sport Regione Sicilia, with the collaboration of the Motor Village FCA Palermo, the event also includes the "Pergusa Historic" gathering that will be held today April 21 at the Autodromo di Pergusa (Enna). This will be the opportunity to admire the new Abarth 124 spider engineered to satisfy even the most demanding drivers. The new Abarth 124 spider is fitted with rear-wheel drive, sophisticated suspension and a four-cylinder 1.4 MultiAir Turbo engine with 170 HP, paired with a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic Sequenziale Sportivo gearbox with steering-wheel paddle shifters.
Finally, a selection of videos will be shown at the Autodromo di Pergusa to present the collection of FCA Heritage, the new organisation created with the task of coordinating all FCA activities on the classic car scene. The name "Heritage" was cleverly chosen for its two-fold meaning of "wealth" and "inheritance", to symbolise the value of history for the company and for the cultural memory of the country as a whole.
