There is one week left to join "Make It Your Race 2012", the international talent show organised by Abarth for aspiring racing drivers aged from 18 to 40. Enrolments opened on 1 March at www.makeityourrace.it and will close on 23 April. More than 20 thousand competitors have signed up, approximately half of whom are from the five main countries involved in the project: Germany, the UK, France, Switzerland and Belgium & Luxemburg. Participation of women competitors (approximately 15 percent of all enrolments) is good.
The YouTube video teaser continues to be very successful, with no fewer than 500 thousand hits. Over 300 thousand people have visited in the last month the www.makeityourrace.it website to date.
In the meantime, votes for the first videos selected by the panel started on April 6th. Nearly 30 thousand online votes have already been cast.
All amateur (and therefore unlicensed) drivers aged between 18 and 40 and resident in Italy, Germany, the UK, France, Switzerland or Belgium & Luxembourg are eligible to take part in the talent show. The 105 finalists, announced immediately after enrolment ends, will take part in the selections during a driving course held by the Abarth Driving Academy at the Varano de' Melegari racing track in collaboration with Andrea De Adamich's International Safe Driving Centre. The 24 best drivers, representing the six countries, will then go to a camp where they will live out a team experience for a week and put their abilities to the test: concentration, reflexes, courage, but also safety and sense of responsibility. During the camp, there will be tests on the competitors' ability to relate with the world and more humorous tests aimed at catching the competitors off guard to gauge their reactions. What will make all this even more fun is the presence of the three BUGS, directly from the "Le Iene" cult TV show, playing the roles of masters of ceremony and trouble-makers.
The final test will be a racing driving course on June 24 at the Franciacorta race track: the six finalists will challenge each other aboard Abarth 500 "Assetto Corse" cars together with professional drivers. The focus on safety is paramount and will be guaranteed by a professional, technical and practical training programme.
"Make it your race" is a further chance for Abarth to promote the concept of the "democratization of racing", dear to the heart of its founder Karl Abarth, by offering young people the possibility to make a lifelong dream come true: taking part in a real competition driving a real racing car.
